so i need to change the interior carpets in my car.
the car was delivered from factory with a white and black interior.
white carpeting (i think it was called pale grey actually), leather seat upholstery, leather door inserts and rear center console
black dash, center console, door vinyl, headliner, floor mats, pillar covering, and cargo cover.
but now... it has all faded to a grimy, splotchy grey color... especially in the trunk area. (apologies for not taking good photos)
the seats will be cleaned and restored to their original color.
but the question is: do i change out the carpets to black? or do i replace the glorious 80's white? (insert 80's cocaine joke here)
EXAMPLES
cleaned up white interior (not my car):
this is a car mid-leather restoration. but the same colors on mine.
black carpets and white leather (not my car either):
i dont have the contrast piping.
(this leather is actually a color called linen, not white, but its similar)
ps: i already decided against getting pasha inserts. but trust me it was a difficult decision.

Why replace when you can remove?

Make the carpet match the drapes.

That is really a stupid color for a car carpet.

While the white looks like it's a real bitch to keep clean, I have to say that the car with the redone interior looks awesome in the two tone with white carpets. I say you stick with white, or you change all of the (currently white) interior to another color, like grey. Or maybe even red?

I would do black. My 944 had a similar color scheme, I am in the process of stripping out all the beige/champagne stuff. Got a couple rolls of lightweight felt-type carpet and I’m gonna have a go at DIY recarpeting.

Regardless, this is a 928 thread. Pasha is required in all 928 threads:
Seriously though, as much as I hate light interiors for their staining problems, I think 928s look good with a light interior.

Are you sure some professional outfit wouldn’t be able to restore your old carpets to their former glory? They do amazing things nowadays.
The obvious solution (changing all the carpeting to black) will take away part of what makes your car special.
By the same token I applaud your decision to clean/restore your seats.

well... its white carpet, with black floormats.
and the original owners were expected to have their manservents wipe the bottoms of their driving moccasins after walking from their villa to the car.
but youre right. completely ridiculous. especially in the trunk. how the hell am i supposed to transport my old leaky steering rack?

that was my thought... or even black carpets for now... and pasha inserts can be a phase 2.
ugh... don’t get me started on that again.

Red.
I vote anything but black. Yawn. You have an 80's car, don't let taste be your guide.

yes, keeping mats black. over white carpet.
which happens to be over some kind of bouncy thick foam rubber material. its really weird. but pretty luxurious. mmmmmm.

black.
white interior is cool, white carpet is dumb. Its like white shoes, it will be dirty the second you use it.

If you put in the white carpet it will really contrast against the old seats and make them look worse than they are. Black carpet would do the opposite. I would go with the black unless you are replacing the seats also.

Having owned one of those in similar colors, I would definitely go with the black...it’s so much easier to keep those looking like they’re supposed to. :-)
